i know that you start drawing more fans during the season if you are winning a lot of games..
so would your attendance the following season be affected at all by the previous year's finish? or is it a fresh start for everyone?

Yes, getwry, your fan enthusiasm is very much affected by how your team did the previous year.

If you have several consecutive seasons of 3rd, 4th, or 5th place finishes, your fan base will get progressively less enthusiastic each year. But if you win the Championship, you'll get a big bump in their loyalty and enthusiasm.
