Just had to come in to share with all my atheist/agnostic friends back here.

I'm selling a car (nothing new there) and I had a guy call me today, and we got to talking, he asked what I did, told him I do a lot of hiring as one thing (on top of others) and he had the audacity to tell me that I should only hire Christians. Because a Christian wouldn't cheat, or steal, or screw me over. That they are good people.

I wanted to ask, so does that make all non-christians thieves and liars?

I'm probably more religious than 80% of this forum (nothing wrong with that in either direction) but **** like that just pisses me off, gives Christians such a bad name and representation. Where in his life has he been taught that this is the kind of message that a God would want spreading? It's just vomit from the mouth, nothing else.

Religion, beliefs. That **** should stay between you and your own relationship with God, and should not be said to other people or preached about how people should live their lives.

It's true though. As an atheist, since I don't believe an invisible supreme being is watching me, I am much more likely to lie, cheat, and steal. Here I am, cheating my company out of 2 or 3 minutes of my time as I post on forums. See?

Common sense would indicate that human laws, the consequences of breaking those laws, the pressures and norms of society, and a decent upbringing leading to a well-adjusted successful life would combine to make me a decent to good person. Joke would be on you! I don't spend several hours a week genuflecting to an error-filled translation of an ancient text. Therefore, instant a-hole.

It's too bad, but this guy's spot on. You should thank him for the courage to speak his mind in times such as these, when the war on religion is so prevalent.

You're asking a forum full of non-Christians whether or not we're all thieves and liars?

    Of course we're not....

Just finished the first story I've written for publication in ... geez, it's gotta be over 7 years. I haven't had a byline in the paper in quite some time.

Seether? That's a serious, stadium-filling act today? Holy crap

It sounds like bad Silverchair - like tracks that didn't make the cut. To think that's one of the torch-carriers of rock today makes me very sad.

    **mistakenly labelled this Shinedown originally.

I'm an Atheist and I definitely steal, lie, and cheat. It's cause I don't have a set of boundaries to live by.

Could you show your work in the margins? Who comprises the 20% that is more religious than you? I'd like a current tally of the most religious forum members. Feel free to use WAR or VORP, if needed.

Not all of them. Just don't lose your wallet.

Let's close every church down! Valuable real estate we can use for something else.

I disagree with your opinion, even though I am 'anti-religion'. I live downtown, so I guess I have quite a "diverse" group of people around. You have somebody preaching on one city street corner about the end of the world. You have another person preaching how we need to be closer to God. Jehovah's Witnesses hand out pamphlets, and the Church of Scientology tries to recruit new members, and there are multiple Islamic centers around as well. I'm sure that outside of my little "bubble" (route that I take downtown), there are many more.

I'm fine with them "saying to other people" whatever they want, as long as they're fine with me completely ignoring them. It doesn't offend me. Saying or hearing "Jesus Christ" or "Holy Bible" doesn't bother me. It's a public space, and just because most people want their peace and quiet and not have to share their opinions on anything (either out of fear or desire not to), that doesn't mean everybody has to. While there are plenty of atheists who are offended by Christianity (the biggest "culprit") and plenty of Christians who are offended by any other religion, I don't see the big deal.

If a religious group wants to spend (or waste, in some people's opinion) their time trying to discuss religion and/or recruit new members or raise money from complete strangers, that's their choice, provided that they're not breaking any laws... regardless which religion it happens to be. They must be getting a good "return on investment" (either financially or through new membership) or they'd stop wasting their time.

What's wrong with being confident in your beliefs, or lack of beliefs? What did you say back to him? Did you nod your head and politely agree with him, or did you state your opinion that you shared online with him instead? While he did seem intolerant of others, I don't think it's disrespectful of him to share his opinion with you (or anybody), even though I disagree with it strongly. It would have been fun to have a discussion with him. After all, the truth is against him.
