How did you find out about Baseball Mogul?

I realize these categories are a bit ambiguous. For example, the folks on these very forums might be "online friends" or "online strangers" depending on your point of view. Nevertheless, I was curious how people got here.

And let me know if I missed anything. Like I wouldn't be surprised if folks found an old version on Warez or Bittorrent and then got into the game from there...

    Thanks!

    honestly, pirated my first copy

don't remember what version, but it was back before the real team names were used & all the pics were of guys in generic looking uniforms (logo-free) and napster was the download app of choice
I went w/ the search engine option since that seemed closest

Did you use a search engine to find a pirated copy?

Even if you didn't pay for your first Mogul, you still had to find out about it somehow...

Friend Gock saw it in some magazine I believe and told me about it. I had heard about it about 2 years before I ever actually found it. I looked for it in a gaming store, and the guys working there had never heard of it. Eventually I found it online.

I have brought more people to the game in the last couple of years.

Dad found out about Baseball Mogul 99 somehow (probably in some baseball publication) and I got addicted.

It's still my favorite version, but I can't find it anywhere in stores/internet.

I might have to dig around for the old Windows 95 to play it.

Haha, was bored one night & just searched napster for 'baseball game'. Got BBM and was disappointed at first cause it was 'just a sim'

Same as etothep. Pirated my first copy by searching the site for 'baseball' and using the filters to find a game for windows. After a few days I was still playing it so I decided to buy it.

For me, whenever I would play games like MVP baseball etc...I would never really play the games, i would just 'GM' the teams. My friends never really understood this, but I love the stats, and the GM aspects of baseball a lot.

So Mogul was right up my alley.

I wish I had known about it sooner, would have been buying it more regularly.

    Don't remember. I assume a search engine... 'twas 2000 or 2001.
Bill Mueller was the best third baseman in the year 2003. He was not the best third baseman when I wrote my first signature, because that was in 2001...

Big Lots, discount software bin. Less than $10...and considering how great of a game it is, I'm not sure that's morally superior to those that stole it...
Colorado Rockies- The only franchise that systematically juices/dejuices the ball and the ballplayers for competitive advantage.

Playing BM 2012 14.0.4.0 (and PAID for it through the Sports Mogul Store - a message to all you degenerates that think the game isn't worth your money, but who think it is worth your time to play it)

I was on a friends computer in 2000 or 2001 and was looking for an old/extinct basketball sim called Slam Dunk Basketball. I decided to see if somebody made a baseball sim and searched for it. I then downloaded it off of Kazaa. I bought '07 and '09 and am patiently waiting to buy 2011.

Re: How did you find out about Baseball Mogul?

The first one I bought was 2007. I had heard of the game, liked the concept, but never had a great impulse to look for it. Then one day I was in a computer store, saw it there, and the rest is history. I've bought every one since.
I was a big fan of Microleague Baseball back in the Apple days and Earl Weaver after that. Never a big fan of console baseball (Until The Show, of course), and liked managing and simulating since I was a kid. Mogul has the ability to be a pretty deep, involving game without being overly complicated like OOTP (Tried a demo of that, was lost).

The first one I ever bought was from Big Lots or Dollar Tree, but it was labeled as "Baseball Manager", and came with a download of some AOL service, I think.

It had points instead of dollars, and you just selected the type of prospects you wanted the game to materialize.

Yeh, players also used to have letter grades instead of numeric ratings
