    Tracking Bryce Harper.

I tried to keep myself shielded from the Bryce Harper hoopla, but now that he is still projecting to be a potential #1 draft pick this year, I have tried to keep up with how he is doing so far this spring @ CSN. I have been waiting for someone to post his stats thus far for the season, and finally CSN's website posted the box scores from this season games. So I took the time to compile those box scores onto a spreadsheet, and figured I would post it on the off-chance someone else would like to see it.
I am still not sure how I would feel if the Nationals pass on him as their first pick, I guess we'll see what happens....

    Harper's Stats

here is a screenshot for those that dont have excell.

Now that conference play has started, here is a snapshot of Bryce's Stats.

    Here is Harper's Playoff lines...

The Colledge of Southern Nevada had 3 games this weekend and Bryce continued to prove that he could compete at that level.

I have updated the first post to reflect how he did.

    Re: Tracking Bryce Harper.

The Colledge of Southern Nevada had four games this week. Opposing pitchers are catching up to speed on how Bryce needs to be pitched seemingly, or his talent has leveled off in comparison to the opposition (as shown by his increasing SO levels). Either way, Harper is a "junior in high school" (age wise) playing at the college level (with a wooden bat).

I have updated the first post to reflect his stats.

    Re: Tracking Bryce Harper.

I just came to my attention that on Thursday 2/18/10, Bryce was among the 50 players named to the 2010 Golden Spikes Watch List. He is the only junior college player to be named, and also the only freshman named.
IMO, he won't win the award but it does add to his hype.

    Re: Tracking Bryce Harper.

The College of Southern Nevada opened its conference play this weekend, and Bryce, after having 2 weeks off, excelled once again. In 12 ABs for the weekend Bryce had 2 Hr's, 3 2B's, 3 singles, 2 BB's to only 2 K's! Raising his average to .408.

    Nice!

    Re: Tracking Bryce Harper.

Another 2 HR's this weekend and his average is rising! I am starting to believe the hype that has been generated about this kid. If you find yourself still unsure, just think, he is playing against guys that are atleast 2 years older and swinging a wooden bat! There are still scouts that are unsure about whether or not he should be drafted as a catcher (his best position) because he may "grow to big to play the position" but even if you stick him in a corner OF spot his talent has proven to be pretty special IMHO. I know, I know, he is "too young" to be a "safe" number 1 overall draft choice, but who is?

I have updated the first post to reflect his current BA.

As young as he is, I have a feeling he wont play catcher. The learning curve defensively is a bit tougher at that position that, say, right field. Any team that drafts him will need to give alot of money and will not want him to spend 3 or 4 years in the minors learning the ins-and-outs of a tough defesive position.

My prediction: The Nationals draft him as a catcher and release him after he wins the Rookie of the Year in 2012.

please, the Nas won't put him in a position to qualify for RoY till at least 2015, y'know to push back his arbitration eligibility.

    Re: Tracking Bryce Harper.

I think I may be developing a man crush on this kid! His average is still rising and his SLG% is reaching Dustin Ackley's level (the number 2 overall draft pick in 2009). 4 more homeruns this weekend, bringing his total to 12, and he pulls within 3 of the single season HR record at his school. Not bad for a 17 year old.

At this point, I may be disappointed if he isnt selected #1 overall this year.
