Week 1: Pittsburgh 0-0 @ Miami 0-0
Pittsburgh Post Gazette
On the right foot.
Pittsburgh opened up the 1996 season with a 9-3 win over the Miami Dolphins. Playing sound defense the Steelers held Miami to 271 yards of total offense and created 2 turnovers, one fumble and one INT. Pittsburgh had a few miscues despite the solid win. 4 penalties on defense, 2 on offense and 2 turnovers. Also having a fumble and INT. These things held back a Steeler offense that was moving the ball well on Miami. Rookie WR Marvin Harrison continued to impress coaches. He ended the game with 3 receptions for 50 yards.

Back to Dominace.
In the home opener at Three Rivers, the Steelers pounded the Jaguars 38-14. The Steelers even got a punt returned for a touchdown by Willie Drewrey of 62 yards. That put Pittsburgh up 21-7 in the second quarter. Rookie QB Shane Matthews was accurate all night. Completing 11 of his 16 passes, also finding McDuffy in the end zone for a 9 yards td.
Pittsburgh's running game exploded with a combined 284 yards and 3 tds. Cowher told the media after the game "Well, he's back". Robert Delpino added 85 yards on 12 carries.

He is Back.
Foster continued his dominance coming back from his torn acl/mcl from last year. He lead the way for the Steeler ground attack while Delpino came in and added 12 yards and Hoge added 24. Matthews continued to have the offense set up for him to succeed only throwing 4 incomplete passes in 15 attempts. He threw a 15 yard td pass to McDuffy as well. Elway was unable to do anything against the Steelers defense and the Denver running game was stuffed. Gaining only 85 yards on the ground. The Steelers easily beat Denver 33-10 and improve to 3-0 on the year.

Week 5: Pittsburgh 3-0 @ Philadelphia 2-1

Rough Outting.
Philadelphia almost beat the undefeated Steelers, but fell short 10-9. There is speculation though because the Steelers were unable to dominate a game played by the Eagles 3rd string QB, Craig Cary. He was able to drive 3 times inside of the Steeler red zone and come away with field goals. But, Keith Byars was quoted as saying "you've gotta come up with touchdowns there... expecialy against this years Steelers". Down 9-7 in the fourth and being 0 for 3, Jason Elam was able to hit his last kick of 35 yards.Previously missing a 42, 39 and 51 yard attempts. The kick was set up by a 22 yard catch and run by sensational rookie wide reciever Marvin Harrison.

Cracks in the Armor.
In a back and forth game, the Steeler defense could not put the breaks on Cincinnati when it mattered most. The game ended as a 23-14 win for the Bengals. Foster was contained most of the game, coming up with 53 yards on 15 attempts. Also, punching in a 4 yard score. The big thorn for Pittsburgh was the 3rd down conversions by Cincinnati, prolonging drives.

Week 10: Dallas 4-4 @ Pittsburgh 5-3
Pittsburgh Post Gazette
Back in the saddle.
In an absolute trouncing, the Pittsburgh Steelers rebounded from their 3 game slide with a 41-13 win. Last years MVP Mark Brunell just had no answers for the swarming Steeler defense. Eventually being replaced by former Steeler QB Don Majkowski in the 4th. Dallas RB Jamal Anderson ran into a steel wall, amassing only 23 yards on 15 attempts.
For the Steelers, it was a much needed win. The only real negatives were 3 fumbles and some penalties. Also, defensive end Al Fontenot broke his leg and will miss at the least 8 weeks with the injury. With Joe Johnson returning the defensive line will not be a decimated as it looks at the surface.

A Flop in Houston.
After a near perfect game last week the Steelers drop a close one 16-7. Pittsburgh was unable to get the running game going as Delpino had 52 yards on 24 attempts. The Steelers offensive line played poorly and allowed 5 sacks. Houston just made the most of their opportunities and made fewer mental errors to win this game.

Week 12: Baltimore 3-7 @ Pittsburgh 6-4

Brutal Win.
In a classic slugfest, the Steelers came out on top 31-27. Matthews threw a career high 4 td passes. One to Delpino, Harrison, Green and McDuffy. Delpino never got the ball moving too well but made some runs that counted. The difference in this close game was the 2 int's in the second half. Kosar, Baltimore's QB, just tried to force the ball too much in the second half. Resulting in the Raven offense unable to get a flow going and it also killed some promising drives. The Steelers escaped the game with no major injuries. As of late the Steelers roster seem to lose a player a week.
