Andrew (Pittsburgh) Thank God for the new CBA which is helping teams like the Pirates sign their picks.
Klaw (2:04 PM) Or forcing teams to pass on players who won't agree to predraft deals ... oh wait, those are illegal under rule 3, so I'm sure nobody would ever do such a thing.

The Nats were once again able to get their 1st Rnd guy at the "midnight hour". Yeah they did have to go over slot for him (and will incur a tax) but they got a top 5 draft pick talent @ 16 and were able to sign the rest of their top 15 picks too!

Good thing too, as that trade for Gio cost 'em several good prospects.... No complaints here though, as Gio has been a real treat to watch mowing down NL East opponents!

‪#Mariners‬ are more than one year and one player away from playoffs. Time to turn Felix into 3 or 4 future contributors.

To answer the question I was asked: If I am JZ, I think seriously about Felix for Ellsbury and Lester if ‪#RedSox‬ include prospects.
Wait what? Ellsbury is a FA in '14 like Felix and Lester is one in '15. That makes no sense. What an idiot. "Prospects" better include Middlebrooks + top 5

Why would the Red Sox give up two of their best players AND two top prospects for Felix?

Felix is good, one of the best, but fu(k me do Mariner fans overrate him. I said one of the best...today...not best ever. Many think he's Bob Gibson.

I don't think there's any player in the game that's worth trading away two of your best players and two of your best prospects for (assuming you're a team not totally bereft of talent)...

considering the sox farm system and contract status / injuries / talent..i'd deal Ells & Lester along with any two from the farm WAS wanted for Strasburg.

Right. But's he's the most liked player on the team. If the Mariners ever trade Felix, they would have to get quite the haul or no one would ever go to games anymore. I think GMZ knows this as well. Felix will never get traded unless we get a lot more than what he's worth back in return.

I would never do that if I was WAS. Strasburg won't be a FA until '17. You have no guarantees that Lester/Ells will stay after their contracts are up.

    Yeah totally agree.

And honestly the Mariners fans would be pretty pleased with Ellsbury and Lester in return.

i wouldn't do it either if i was WAS, which was my point.

Ells / Lester / and the their choice of two from Boston's system would be a "quite a haul" which I think educated Mariner fans would be pleased with. Anyway, this hypothetical is nonsensical as the Sox would never give that much up for him.

Crawford's on the way back to the lineup, along with that massive contract. Meanwhile in related news Daniel Nava is the guy Crawford will push out of the lineup. Yes the Daniel Nava and his .384 obp.

do you go with Crawford or stick with Nava?

It's generally better to err on the side of the established star.

I think his contract guarantees he'll play regardless. Personally I think Crawford is done though, so I would stick with Nava.
