The evidence that the typical player tends to improve up until age 26-27, and that the improvements are sometimes dramatic, is so clear and consistant that it's almost self-evident if you bother to look at the data at all.

Yeah all he is doing is presenting more evidence to us who know the program.

Houston put Brad Mills out of his misery. What an awful, awful team that is, a new manager wont help anything with that roster.

if you were a sought after manager (lol had trouble actually typing that in response to you ), what team would you more prefer next year. Houston, or Boston? Question really geared towards all, not just you.

I guess it boils down to whether you'd rather work with players with no talent, or a bunch of prima donnas.

I'd take one of those cushy jobs on MLB Network or ESPN.

Question Re: 2012 MLB Season Discussion Thread

I think this to be most unlikely, but good luck (and judgment), anyway, Derek.

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are .

Oh I'd take Houston a thousand times over Boston. Mills got fired because he's the old guy in a new regime. It's not entirely fair, but it's a given that a new GM is going to bring in his own guy. The timing is a little off, but I don't think that means that Houston is some sort of toxic organization where expectations defy reality. Maybe it is, but the jury is still out on that.

On the other hand, we already have years of evidence that the Red Sox are a toxic organization where expectations defy reality. Oh, and all of their veteran players are dick sandwiches. They hate lax managers. They hate tough guy managers. And no amount of winning confers any sort of respect. No thank you.

    yup.

And I would rather be part of a new ship, with a regime that cares a lot of about analytics/stats.

It's more fun bringing a team from the bottom up, rather than jumping on the crashing wagon that is Boston as it is starting to slip.

Boston is more likely to win in 2013. I think Houston is more likely to be a good organization top to bottom within 5 years though.

God, if he actually breaks that record, Yankee fans will be even more insufferable than they already are.
