As much as I hate to agree with Pete slightly I must say his point is somewhat true. She was there for the kids safety. If something were to happen and those kids needed direction, they sure as hell weren't going to respect this woman enough to listen to her.

My kindergartner daughter got shoved hard to the dirt at the playground by a second-grade boy (who happens to be on my son's Little League team).
Before my wife could get across the park to intervene, out of nowhere--batman-style--my son swoops in, gets in front of the kid and says, "That's my sister." Kid begins to try to explain himself. My son interrupts, "Don't touch her. And you shouldn't be pushing anyone around, anyway--especially girls." Kid takes off.
Reporting incidents is nice. Prompt correction by an adult is better. But, sometimes, one of one's own peers politely informing you that you're acting like a little sh!t has the best outcome for everyone. Too bad it doesn't happen more.
