71 people shot, 12 murdered in Aurora movie theater

    http://www.9news.com/news/local/arti...eater-shooting

None of my friends were there, I called a lot of people this morning.

I can't even feel emotion this morning, I'm numb. Having sudden fear that I could have lost someone is never a good thing. Condolences to the victims families.

And let's begin the witch hunt for why this guy did what he did.

Why he did what he did (real life): He was depressed, teased, mentally broken, shell shocked.
Why he did what he did (what they will blame): Guns, tv, movies, video games, music.

What this should lead to : More outlets for depressed, teased, mentally broken, shell shocked people to get help
What this will lead to: More gun control laws, more harsh standards for games, tv and movies.

I have friends in the area and was calling them as well. All is good for them. Prayers to the community and families.
Yeah, I'm from Pittsburgh. I love both our sports teams.

    Oh, you joker!

Wait, can I still say joker? Should I go watch the new Batman flick while I still can? Will playing cards still have jokers in them?

This theater had a no weapon sign up. Yeah that worked well. As usual all it did was deny the law abiding citizens their constitutianal right to defend themselves. The theater will get sued and have to pay a huge settlement. Put a gun in the hands of even a couple of people in this theater, this never happens. Guaranteed.

Let's not use this thread as a gun control debate. This situation is horrible, **** politics. **** red states, **** blue states.

Umm, no. Most people that carry legal concealed guns usually carry hand guns. The shooter threw a gas canister into a dark movie theater and started shooting at people with a semi-automatic gun. He also wore protective gear. Handguns would have done little damage even if they got a shot off.

Also, what percent of Americans have a concealed weapons permit? I would think that number is pretty low. Also it was a showing of a Batman movie. I don't think too many NRA-type of people tend to watch Batman movies. So there may have been one or two guys that may have owned a gun. So two guys with handguns against a guy with a semiauto? I think semi-auto wins most of the time.

I will try not to make this political.

I just wish there was a way to where anyone could have the avenues available to get help that you need that would be affordable to prevent things like this from happening.

I also wish that people would just be cool to each other so that as few as possible don't become mentally broken.

In general we should care more about one another, or at least act like we care.

Lastly and most importantly, I wish innocent people wouldn't die like this.

How in ****'s name is this the theater's fault?

Also, what OD and AI said.

Oh, and no, the theater disallowing weapons did not deny law-abiding citizens their constitutional right to defend themselves.

what's an "NRA-type" and why do they tend to not watch Batman movies any less than the rest of the public?

I probably exaggerated by saying the only people with concealed guns are most likely part of the NRA and saying that rednecks in the NRA won't watch Batman. That part was wrong and probably shouldn't have been said.

But the rest of the post still is accurate in that a few guys with handguns most likely won't stop a guy with full body protection and a semi-auto in a dark theater. It's unfortunate that this had to happen. No amount of regulation could have prevented this. More money needs to go into mental health and why he snapped instead of going towards guns and trying to ban video games or whatever.

Leaving the rest of what he said aside, he's probably right that the theater will get sued. I agree with you that this is in no way their fault, but that won't stop someone from trying to get some money from them.

    1. Interesting fact. I am relatively certain I have been in that theater before. My dad used to live in Aurora over 20 years ago, and I about 90% certain that's the theater I saw the original Burton Batman film at in 1989. Which is rather creepy.

    2. Just a horrible, horrible incident ... nothing gun control or anything could solve.

Mental health care in this country needs to improve, desperately.

Yeah, but from his tone, he sounded like it was justified.
